Our Engine Building Process
To build a quality engine, you must start with a good case. After disassembly, the case is washed, inspected, align-bored for main and cam bearings, and case-saver inserts are installed if needed. It’s then thoroughly cleaned again and fitted with original main and rod bearings onto a reground or polished crank with a German gear set.
We install inspected rods, cam bearings, and a good camshaft with a matched set of reground lifters. German or chrome sump plates are used because they’re thicker and stronger than the Brazilian ones. Each engine gets a new sump screen and gaskets, along with a surface-machined pump and cover.
After head studs are installed, we check deck height and CC both heads to set compression at 7.5:1. New pistons and liners are cleaned of Cosmoline, oiled, and assembled with new pushrod tubes and red silicone seals before the heads are torqued down.
Heads are cleaned, inspected for cracks and seats, then shot-peened for a superior finish. Valve seats are cut, exhaust valves replaced, and heads are fly-cut and matched. After installation, we pressure-test the heads for leaks.
German rockers and pushrods are installed, valve lash adjusted, and rockers lubricated for smooth startup. Valve covers are fitted and bail tension restored to factory strength. Finally, a new red German Elring flywheel seal is installed, endplay set, and the flywheel torqued using Loctite.
